The mother of the man fatally shot in Petersburg over the Memorial Day weekend is urging her son’s killer to come forward.
“How do I see a casket close in my baby’s face? Just tell me how do I handle that? ” asked Pricilla Jones, the victim’s mother.
25-year-old Terrell Hobson was pronounced dead at the Southside Regional Medical Center. Two others have also been hospitalized. Police are still trying to figure out who pulled the trigger and why.
“We don’t often have to have the whole story, because it’s often small parts of a story which will help us put everything together,” says Esther Hyatt with the Petersburg Police Department.
Last year the city and the Virginia National Guard partnered up to rip down a vacant house, just steps away from Sunday’s shooting. The goal was to eliminate a breeding ground for illegal activity. Though police are still investigating what happened on Sunday around 9:15 p.m., community leaders are concerned.
“We don’t have the resources available in Petersburg, when I say resources, for the young people, community centers, things that they can do even after hours,” George Friday with the Veterans of Foreign War chapter in Petersburg told 8news anchor Ava-joye Burnett.
