ARLINGTON, Va. (WRIC) — The Atlantic 10 Baseball Championship was set to begin Day Two Thursday at 10:00 AM with a match up between Richmond and Rhode Island, but Mother Nature literally rained on that parade.
First pitch for the Spiders and Rams was pushed all the way back to 5:00 PM. As of 6:45 PM, Richmond and Rhode Island were deadlocked at 1 in the 8th inning.
Game Two Thursday between the VCU Rams and number one-seed St. Louis was to have started around 1:30, but that first pitch has backed up all the way to 8:30.
VCU is coming off an 11-0 demolition of Davidson. The win was their eight straight. Coach Shawn Stiffler said he hoped the offense would continue, even as that was somewhat unlikely.
“We scored early [yesterday]. We scored in the first 4 innings of the game and I think that helped everyone relax,” Stiffler said while waiting at the team hotel Thursday. “The way we’ve been scoring over the last four or five games — if we can continue that trend — but offense comes and goes so we’ll see what we get today.”
