RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Bad news for allergy sufferers in the area: Richmond is the number one “sneeziest city” in the country, according to a new report from The Natural Resources Defense Council.
The river city ranks as one of the worst cities in the country for pollen. The city also suffers from ozone smog pollution that can worsen respiratory allergies and asthma.
“109 million Americans—living mainly in cities from Richmond to Atlanta, Philadelphia to Chicago, Oklahoma City to Phoenix and Los Angeles—are more likely to suffer itchy eyes, runny noses and sneezing, and may find it hard to breathe…. And they become more ill than those exposed to only ragweed or ozone pollution,” The Natural Resources Defense Council says.
On the list of worst offenders, Richmond is followed by Memphis, Oklahoma City and Philadelphia.
