A baby was born on a flight from Calgary to Tokyo and the parents had no idea they were expecting.
While in the air 23-year-old Ada Guan experienced pain that she thought was just gas, but the pains turned out to be labor pain.
Her boyfriend Wesley Branch said they never would of gotten on a plane if they had known Guan was pregnant. The couple had noticed signs before, but when taking a pregnancy test the results came back negative.
“I couldn’t imagine. This just happened completely unexpectedly,” Branch said, according to CTV. “It turned out that we have a little baby beautiful girl.”
Three doctors sitting in first class helped deliver the baby girl.
After the baby was delivered, the passengers clapped, they told Japanese media.
“I got a phone call, and it was Wes saying, ‘Mom, mom, I got something to tell you, mom. You’re not gonna believe this, mom.’ I thought something bad happened,” Sandra Branch told CTV. “He says, ‘You’re a grandma!'” she said. “And I said, ‘What? How can this happen? She wasn’t pregnant!’ And he says, ‘Well, it turns out she was.'”
Guan and the surprise baby, Chloe, are doing well in the hospital, CTV reports.
