CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WRIC) — Devin Christian Grant, the 20-year-old Colonial Heights man who was arrested in June of 2013 after pulling a gun and firing several shots at a Chesterfield County Police Officer, has been sentenced to 12 years in jail.
After twice being ruled incompetent to stand trial, Grant pleaded guilty to attempted capital murder and use of a firearm in Chesterfield Circuit Court on Wednesday.
Judge Frederick G. Rockwell III sentenced Grant to 30 years behind bars with 21 suspended for the capital murder charge and tacked on three more years for the firearm offense.
Grant was arrested on June 15, 2013 after an officer approached an occupied vehicle at Matoaka Park. Police said Grant exited the vehicle and fired multiple shots at the officer before fleeing on foot.
He was later captured in the 4500 block of Willow Dale Ct. in Chesterfield and taken into custody.
