Police release warning about threat on Virginia Tech campus

BLACKSBURG, Va. (WRIC) — Police are investigating Wednesday after they say that a threat about a possible situation at Virginia Tech was posted to social media last night.

Police say that around 11:15 p.m. on Tuesday, a user on Yik Yak posted a threat that reads, “Another 4.16 moment is going to happen tomorrow. Just a warning.”

“At this time, the VTPD has not obtained any additional information that would suggest this is a credible threat,” police said in a release on Wednesday.

VTPD say they were made aware of the post shortly after it appeared.

Although Virginia Tech is not specifically mentioned in the post, VTPD is working with Blacksburg Police to investigate. Both departments say they are pursuing several active leads this morning.

Anyone with any information concerning this post is strongly encouraged to call the VTPD at (540) 231-6411 or the Blacksburg PD at (540) 961-1150.

VTPD says they’d like to remind everyone to remain vigilant, be aware of your surroundings at all times, and to immediately report any suspicious person or persons and/or suspicious activity to the police by dialing 911, or by dialing the non-emergency number for the VTPD at (540) 231-6411, or the Blacksburg Police at (540) 961-1150.
