COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. (WRIC) — Police are investigating a murder-suicide that happened at a Colonial Heights home after an eviction led to the discovery of two bodies inside on Tuesday morning.
When officials arrived to evict the home, located in the 1000 block of Floral Avenue, they were unable to get inside because no one responded to their knocking at the door.
Officers escorting the officials delivering the eviction notice made their way inside only to discover Steven R. Rogers, 54 and Elizabeth F. Rogers, 45, inside a bedroom with apparent gunshot wounds, according to police.
“It’s a little shocking in this neighborhood. It’s pretty quiet,” said Jason Creech, neighborhood resident.
The home was being rented and the eviction notice was about to be served to the home.
8News was told the landlord of the property has been told about the incident.
Only a few people in the neigborhood have seen the victims before, but even fewer have spoken with them.
“Very quiet. Most of the people who live here are elderly everybody pretty much mind their own business very nice and pleasant but very quiet block,” said Amie Davila, neighborhood resident.
A weapon was recovered from inside the residence, but there is no sign of a forced entry.
Virginia State Police are investigating this incident.
