RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Nearly 50 passengers were evacuated from an American Airlines plane after it landed at Richmond International Airport on Saturday.
According to American Airlines, flight 4010 landed safely at RIC shortly after 12 p.m. A flight attendant reported smoke in the cabin, and the 45 passengers were immediately evacuated and transported back to the terminal.
American Airlines confirmed that the source of the smoke was from a lithium battery inside a passenger’s carry-on bag.
No injuries were reported.
Richmond International Airport Director of Marketing and Air Service Development Troy Bell said the incident was cleared at around 2 p.m. after the aircraft was towed off Taxiway B.
