STAFFORD, Va. (WRIC) — The man charged with killing his one-year-old foster child in Stafford County was granted bond this morning.
A judge granted 33-year-old David John Marcussen $75,000 bond on Thursday.
Marcussen, of the 600 block of Village Parkway in Fredericksburg, has been charged with one count of felony murder, one count of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of cruelty to children and one count of child neglect after a foster child in his care, who was identified as Ka’ron Mason, died from scalding hot bath water.
It happened in the family home where Marcussen lives with his wife and two biological children, according to detectives.
Ka’ron had been with his foster family since July of 2014. The Department of Social Services insists the family passed the strict screening process for foster parents.
Police say the baby boy had been brought to an area hospital with burns to his face, torso and neck. After an evaluation, the baby was air-lifted to VCU Medical Center. Ka’ron died on February 1 at the hospital.
Marcussen is being held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
