Dry sunny and cool for Thursday and Friday

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — It is a little chilly this morning with temperatures mainly in the 40’s across Central Virginia.

The sunshine will be with us all day but the cool air will remain in place, so look for highs only in the middle to upper 60’s. It will be clear and chilly again tonight with lows in the lower 40’s with some outlying sections to our north and west dropping back into the upper 30’s.

Mainly sunny skies will be with us again on Friday and it will be pleasant with highs in the upper 60’s to near 70. That means it will be just perfect for Pole Position Qualifying for the XFINITY and SPRINT CUP Series races at Richmond International Raceway. We expect clear skies for the Toyotacare 250 XFINITY Series Race Friday evening with race time temperatures of 63 degrees but dropping into the upper 50’s by the end of the race, so you might want to bring a light jacket or sweatshirt. Overnight Friday we will see mainly clear skies and it will be chilly with lows in the lower 40’s.

Any sunshine early Saturday will fade behind clouds with a chance of rain showers developing during the later afternoon and evening. The time for the showers to begin looks to be between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Unfortunately, light rain showers look to be around for the start of and through the Toyota Owners 400 SPRINT CUP Series race. Right now, race time temperatures look to be around 60 degrees.

Showers will continue into early morning Sunday but then the clouds will give way to afternoon sunshine with highs in the middle 60’s.

Mostly sunny skies will be with us on Monday with highs around 70.

Tuesday will feature partly sunny skies with highs back to normal, into the lower 70’s.

Rain looks to return for Wednesday and Thursday.
