RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Most of the 8News viewing area is now under either a severe thunderstorm or tornado watch until 10 p.m.
Richmond, Chesterfield, Henrico, Hanover and the Tri-Cities are all under a severe thunderstorm watch. Areas north and west of the Metro Richmond area, including Charlottesville and Fredericksburg, are under a tornado watch.
All areas could see strong to severe storms this afternoon through the evening.
The 8News viewing area has been placed under an “enhanced warning” for severe weather today.
This will allow the air to really warm up and it will be humid with highs in the lower 80’s. A cold front will push through this afternoon and evening and it will “fire up” on the warm and humid air allowing for thunderstorms to develop. The best time frame for thunderstorms is from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. with some of the thunderstorms having large hail and gusty winds in excess of 60 miles per hour. The threat of thunderstorms will come to an end before midnight and our skies will become partly cloudy.
Tuesday will be mostly sunny and very pleasant with highs around 70.
Partly sunny skies will be around for Wednesday as a weak weather system moves into the region. We might see a few showers from this system during the evening.
Partly sunny skies will be around for Thursday and Friday with highs around 70.
We are watching another weather system that could bring us more clouds on Saturday with the chance of showers during the day.
Sunday looks to be a better day with highs in the upper 60’s under partly sunny skies.
As always, stay with 8News for the latest on your StormTracker forecast.
