Parts of Midlothian Turnpike shutdown Monday morning after power line fire

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) —  A power line caught fire overnight near the Powhatan County line.

Police responded to 17408 Midlothian Turnpike around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday when a transformer on top of the power line caught fire.

Crews were forced to close down part of Midlothian Turnpike near Frameway Road when the power lines began to sag.

The incident knocked out power to about 3700 people. Most of the homes have had power their power restored this morning.

Crews were on scene for hours. The road reopened around 7:30 a.m.
