Overnight house fire displaces 7 from home in Dinwiddie County

DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Seven people were displaced from their home after a house fire in Dinwiddie County overnight.

Fire officials tell 8News that crews were dispatched to a house fire in the 19000 block of Spriggs Road Thursday around 11:09 p.m. First arriving units reported a one story residence showing heavy fire coming from the rear porch.

The fire had extended into the living areas of the residence as well. Seven people were at home at the time and all made it out before fire crews got there. Firefighters say one person discovered the fire and alerted the others to get out.

The fire was marked under control within 30 minutes. The home was equipped with working smoke detectors.

The home was significantly damaged and the Red Cross is assisting the family at this time.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
