N.K. County man cited for attempting to board plane at RIC with loaded handgun

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A New Kent County man was cited on a state weapons charge after he was caught trying to bring a loaded semi-automatic handgun in his carry-on bag at Richmond International Airport Friday morning.

Transportation Security Officers detected the 9mm gun loaded with seven roads inside the Quinton resident’s carry-on bag as it passed along the conveyor belt.

TSA officers contacted the Capital Region Airport Commission Police, which responded and took possession and ammunition. The individual was ticketed to fly through Atlanta on his way to Las Vegas.

There was no impact to airport operations.
