PETERSBURG, Va (WRIC) — The Petersburg mother accused of killing her child and hiding his body was indicted on charges of first-degree murder and concealment of a body on Thursday.
According to police, 21-year-old Kadijah Stewart Mungin is accused of asphyxiating her one-day-old son, Joshua, on September 7th at her home in the 1900 block of Rice Street.
Mungin also is charged with concealing her child’s body “with malicious intent and to prevent detection of an unlawful act or to prevent detection or the the manner or cause of death,” according to the indictment.
She was first charged with murder and concealment the day after her son’s murder. Those charges were certified to the grand jury in late January by a judge in Petersburg Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court.
Police have not released how the baby was asphyxiated or how his body was concealed.
Mungin is being held without bond at Riverside Regional Jail. Her next court date is August 4th.
