Petersburg family desperate for closure a year after quadruple homicide

PETERSBURG, Va (WRIC) — Four family members were brutally killed in a Petersburg home nearly one year ago, and the person of interest, Alexander Hill Jr., is still nowhere to be found.

For the first time, a close relative is talking about the tragedy — as U.S. Marshals continue their search for answers.

On April 19, 2014, three women and a two-year-old were found dead in a charred home. We later learned two had been stabbed, and the child and other woman died from the fire. All four deaths ruled homicides.

This has been very hard, it was a very brutal, tragic death involving my family members, and it just hurts so bad,” said Vanessa Washington.

This weekend marks one year since Washington lost her mother, sister, niece and 2-year-old great nephew.

“It’s just so hard that this man is out there somewhere,” she said.

Hill was last spotted on a surveillance camera in Rocky Mount, NC, less than 24 hours after the killings.

“We’ve done dozens of interviews in Virginia, out of state, had some international leads, nothing’s come up,” said Kevin Connolly, with the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force in Richmond.

Connolly says Hill, nicknamed “real deal,” has cut off all communication with known ex-girlfriends, friends and family members.

“Basically he’s vanished,” said Connolly.

Hill has brown eyes but usually wears hazel contacts. Investigators warn he has an infatuation with sex chat lines and a record of arrests for domestic violence against women.

“Our feeling is he’s laying low under the radar, he’s bouncing from motel to motel, maybe meeting some women and taking advantage of them….just working for cash under the table,” said Connolly.

Petersburg police and U.S. Marshals need your help to put him behind bars.

“We’re not going to stop looking for him, but we’d love to have something actual to go on,” said Connolly.

“It will bring my family comfort. It will never heal us, but at least we can get some closure to this nightmare,” said Washington.

There is a $15,000 reward for the capture of Alexander Hill Jr. Anyone that may have had contact with or seen Hill is asked to contact the U.S. Marshals at 1-877-WANTED-2 (1-877-926-8332). The U.S. Marshals Service is offering a $10,000 in total is being offered for information leading to the arrest of Hill. Tipsters may remain anonymous.
