PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) — A Petersburg firefighter is accused of having sex with a teenager.
The city of Petersburg has placed Casey Davis on administrative duty. City leaders say they are waiting for this case to take it’s legal course before taking additional action.
Davis has worked with the Petersburg Fire Department for more than six years. He’s been charged with sexual battery of a minor, who was 17 at the time.
According to court documents, the alleged incident happened last September in Dinwiddie County. However, the incident wasn’t reported to deputies until late December. Deputies say a family member of the child came forward.
The documents accuse Davis of engaging in consensual sexual intercourse with or performing sexual acts upon a child. A source tells 8News that Davis was dating the girl’s mother.
Davis was charged with a class one misdemeanor on January 30. According to law enforcement, there is a misdemeanor charge and not a felony because officials believe this was consensual sex.
In a statement, a city spokesperson said: “The City will standby our decision to allow due process for Mr. Davis and this is also considered a personnel matter.”
8News anchor Ava-joye Burnett also contacted the Virginia Professional Fire Fighters for comment on this matter. The organization sent 8News a statement which reads, “We take great pride in serving the communities of the Commonwealth and the public confidence afforded to firefighters. We have zero tolerance for any action(s) that may risk such. In general, whenever allegations arise, reactions should be made with respect to due process.”
Davis is due back in court on Tuesday April 21st.
