RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A Richmond man was sentenced to 15 years behind bars on Thursday for possession of child pornography.

46-year-old Richard Moore pleaded guilty to five counts of possession of child porn, Attorney General Mark R. Herring announced.

Richmond City Circuit Court Judge Beverly W. Snukals sentenced Moore to a 15-year prison term with three years of active incarceration and 12 years suspended.

In addition to the prison sentence, Moore will be required to complete a period of supervised probation upon release. He will also have to register on the Virginia Sex Offender Registry, pay restitution and give up the computer equipment he used in the commission of his crimes.

“Seeking justice against those who abuse and exploit our children is one of my top priorities as Attorney General,” A.G. Herring said. “We will continue to work diligently with our law enforcement partners across Virginia to protect the most vulnerable of our society. I am pleased with the sentence in this case and want to commend all the law enforcement officers involved in this investigation.”

Moore was identified through an undercover investigation into child pornography trading over the internet. An undercover officer with the Richmond Police Department downloaded several child pornographic images directly from Moore’s computer.

Agents with the Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force subsequently executed a search warrant at Moore’s residence in March 2013. Officers seized numerous pieces of computer equipment. A forensic exam confirmed that Moore had downloaded and saved approximately 200 images and videos of pre- and post-pubescent children engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

In an interview conducted during the search, Moore voluntarily admitted seeking out and downloading child pornography from the internet.
