RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Virginia-based Sabra Dipping Co. has issued a national recall for 30,000 cases of classic hummus because of the possible contamination of listeria.
In healthy individuals, Listeria monocytogenes may cause short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. But it can cause serious, and sometimes fatal, infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems, and it can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
There are no reported cases of sickness to date, according to the FDA.
The recall is limited to five stock unit (SKU) numbers of Classic Hummus. No other Sabra product is affected at this time.
Consumers should discard packages with the following codes, which are located on the top of each package. You can also return them to stores for a refund.
