RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A woman out for an evening jog in Shockoe Bottom was attacked from behind with a knife on Tuesday.
Police are still hunting this morning for the man who did it.
Authorities say the attack happened just after 8:00 p.m. near the Main Street train station in the 1500 block of E. Main St. The female victim told police that as she was running, a man came up behind her and told her “not to scream.” When she did scream, he then cut her on the arm before running away toward the river.
The woman was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries and is expected to be okay.
The suspect did not take any money or items from the victim.
Police say that there will be increased patrols in the area.
“First Precinct patrol officers, while already maintaining a robust, high-visibility patrol in the area, will bolster patrol units and coverage while the investigation into this aggravated assault continues. A portion of this augmented presence will be of the covert, undercover variety.”
Detectives ask anyone with any information about these suspects to call Major Crimes Detective David Cuffley at (804) 646-3914.
