CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WRIC) — A judge sentenced a former Chesterfield Baseball Club coach on Tuesday for sex crimes involving a child.
A Chesterfield Circuit Court jury recommended a 99-year sentence for 50-year-old Robert J. Dodd. Dodd, of the 10000 block of Wycliff Road, was sentenced to 99 years in prison with 20 years suspended.
Dodd was convicted in November 2014 of forcible sodomy, aggravated battery and taking indecent liberties with a minor while in a custodial role. The charges involved a boy in the 1990s.
Dodd was also accused of sexually assaulting a member of a kids sports team he coached. Dodd was acquitted of sexual abuse involving other children in separate trials in December 2013 and January 2014.
Police say Dodd used Facebook to lure teens to his home, where he held parties and gave alcohol to minors. When the minors became intoxicated, Dodd engaged in inappropriate sexual behavior with them, police said.
The alleged crimes took place over a period of seven years, Chesterfield County Police said.
A 17-year-old testified in the case that she went to Dodd’s home last year, and friends gave her drinks called ‘Alabama slammers’. The teen said she passed out on Dodd’s bed but woke up twice during the night—once to Dodd rubbing her legs, the second time, her breast. She said each time, she felt like she could barely move.
