HOPEWELL, Va. (WRIC) — One person is in police custody, after leading officers on a chase through Prince George County Monday afternoon. The pursuit resulted in minor property damage, but no one was injured.
Officers say two suspects were being questioned by police about possible illegal drug activity in the 12000 block of South Crater Road when one took off on foot and the other fled in a vehicle.
An officer was nearly struck by the fleeing vehicle; he was able to jump out of the way and chase the suspect who fled on foot.
The situation then escalated as the vehicle raced through the county, ending after 20 minutes in a home’s front yard on Danville Street near Windsor Avenue in Hopewell.
Hopewell Police then arrested both suspects and seized marijuana and cocaine from them. There was minor property damage during the course of the pursuit, but no injuries.
39-year-old Walter Howard Tucker, of Hopewell, was charged with two felonies and three misdemeanors, including possession of a controlled substance, eluding police, driving on a suspended license, hit and run and destruction of property.
20-year-old Darius Hogan, also of Hopewell, was charged with one felony and a misdemeanor, including possession with intent to distribute and possession of marijuana.
Police are still investigating.
