NEW YORK (MEDIA GENERAL) – Lots of big names were tossed around when Jon Stewart announced he was ending his 16-year run as host of ‘The Daily Show.’ Instead, Monday morning, Comedy Central announced it is appointing a relative newbie to the hosting chair, Trevor Noah.
Noah started with ‘The Daily Show’ as a contributor in December 2014. He’s been in three sketches including one where he pokes fun at racial tensions in America.
The 31-year-old was born in South Africa. He’s hosted South Africa’s music, television and film awards, and two seasons of his own late night talk show ‘Tonight with Trevor Noah.’
No doubt Noah has big shoes to fill and he knows it. Stewart took over The Daily Show in 1999. During his tenure, the show has won more Emmy’s than you can count. And, it’s been credited for informing a whole new generation about what the news is, all be it in a satirical fashion.
