AMHERST COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Students and alumni at Hampden-Sydney College are bringing together several online retailers in efforts to help keep Sweet Briar College open.

“Shop for Sweet Briar” is one of several efforts underway to keep Sweet Briar open. The college is set to close at the end of this year because of financial problems.

This week, a group called HSC for SBC announced an online shopping event  to raise money for Saving Sweet Briar, the alumnae organization that’s been fighting the decision to close the women’s college since it was announced.

Through the “Shop for Sweet Briar” program, retailers will donate proceeds to the school.

The week-long online shopping event starts today at 10 a.m. and ends Sunday, April 5 at midnight.
