Chesterfield man arrested after leading police on vehicle, foot pursuit

A Chesterfield man is facing several charges after driving away from a routine traffic stop Thursday night.

Shortly before midnight on Wednesday, Richmond Police officers pulled over 45-year-old Steven Banks for a defective taillight in the 1200 block of Jefferson Davis Highway. During the stop, Banks, of the 5500 block of Cypress Drive in North Chesterfield, drove off.

Officers followed him to the 400 block of Westover Hills Boulevard where Banks left his vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. He was quickly captured.

Banks and RPD officers received minor injuries during the foot pursuit and subsequent arrest.

Banks is being charged with felony elude and two misdemeanors – having an open container of alcohol and operating a motor vehicle with defective equipment.
