Dollar General employee hospitalized after car crashes into Henrico store

HENRICO, Va (WRIC) — Clean up and repairs will take several days here at the Dollar General off of Mechanicsville Turnpike after a car flew forward busting through the front of the store injuring one person.

“Everybody came running from everywhere,” described one eye witness who wished not to be identified.

That eyewitness says she was inches away from being in harms way as she had just walked in front of the out-of-control vehicle.

The car did strike an employee who was standing at the cash register. She was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The driver and a child in the car were not hurt.

With repairs underway, the scene drew quite the crowd, many regular customers stopping by to check out the damage.

“Oh I was shocked, and a little bit terrified because I know most of the people who work here and we frequent this place all the time,” said Carolyn Owens.

Despite repairs taking several days, 8News has been told the store does plan to reopen Friday.

No word why the driver crashed through the store, or if she will be charged.
