8News partnered with Wheel of Fortune to give the gift of excellent medical care to kids in our area: on Tuesday, 8News Anchor Juan Conde and Wheel of Fortune presented  Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU with $10,000!

Back in December, Wheel gave viewers the chance to win the same prizes as contestants–and to donate that cash to their local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital. On Tuesday, with a 100% match from Wheel of Fortune, we presented the hospital a check for $10,000.

“These dollars will help support programs and resources so that when children who are very ill come to this hospital in need, we’re able to provide the care that they need. And frankly, deserve,” explained Rachel Bruni with Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU.

Marieya Bolton, 8, is just one of the children whom Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU has helped.

“Marieya, who will be 8 soon, when she was 4, she was diagnosed with severe aplastic anemia,” said her mother Venus. “The only cure for that is a bone marrow transplant.”

Children’s Hospital gave Marieya Bolton a pair of bone marrow transplants from her older brother Jalen, who was a perfect match.

“And she’s doing beautifully. We’re now in her survivorship. Everybody’s doing great,” Venus said.

Thanks to Wheel of Fortune, other area families will share the joy the Bolton’s feel.
