HOPEWELL, Va. (WRIC) — Two suspects in a robbery have been arrested after the pair allegedly fired shots toward police officers.
Authorities say that a strong-arm robbery occurred near the intersection of S. 12th Ave. and Atlantic St. on Thursday around 1:17 a.m. The victim flagged down a police officer who was patrolling in the area.
As the officer began to investigate, police say that one of the robbery suspects began firing in the direction of the officer and victim. A police vehicle and two apartments were struck. The officer did not return fire.
No injuries were reported in the shooting.
Police arrested 21-year-old Devonte Lamar Taylor (a.k.a. “Cone”), of Hopewell, and charged him with discharging a weapon, assault and battery, robbery, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, shooting into an occupied dwelling and attempted malicious wounding.
Kunwane Mortez Taylor (a.k.a. “Chip”), 33, of Hopewell, was also arrested and is charged with assault and battery as well as robbery.
“With assistance from the US Marshals Service Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, these violent offenders have been taken off our streets,” Hopewell Police Chief John Keohane said.
