FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (WRIC) — One man is dead and one suspect is in custody following an early morning homicide in Fredericksburgi on Friday.
The homicide is reportedly the first in Fredericksburg since the 2013 shooting of Rodney Beanum on November 24, 2013.
The incident occurred on the 100 block of Wicklow Drive in the Fall Hill Apartments. Police were dispatched to the area at 2:20 a.m. and found a male victim was lying unresponsive in a stairwell.
Officers found the man unconscious, bleeding and suffering from an apparent stab wound to the chest. Emergency life-saving measures were taken by officers on the scene before the victim was transported to Mary Washington Hospital. He was pronounced dead a short time later.
The victim has been identified as 22-year-old Joshua Wormley, whose last known address was in the town of Bowling Green in Caroline County.
A citizen’s tip led officers and detectives to a residence inside the apartment complex, where they found a male hiding in a closet. Robby Sumter, 22, was detained for questioning and later arrested and charged with first degree homicide. Detectives determined Sumter as an acquaintance in the stabbing. He is being held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
