Second person dies in fatal Chesterfield car crash

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A second person involved in a fatal single car crash on Old Lewiston Road has died.

Police say the crash happened in the 11200 block of Old Lewiston Road on Friday, February 27. Authorities say that it is unknown what time the crash occurred, but police were called to the scene at about 6:30 p.m.

Police said a 2003 Toyota Matrix was traveling north on Old Lewiston Road when it entered the driveway of a home. Police said that the vehicle then hit the home’s front porch, went airborne, returned to the ground and continued until it struck a tree head-on.

The driver of the vehicle, 91-year-old James Carpenter of the 11200 block of Old Lewiston Road, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

A passenger in the vehicle, 82-year-old Natalie Carpenter, was transported to VCU Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Carpenter, also of the 11200 block of Old Lewiston Road, died as a result of her injuries on March 8.

James Carpenter and Natalie Carpenter were married. Police say that neither were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

Police are still investigating the crash.
