HENRICO, Va. (WRIC) — Police are asking for the public’s help to identify a person involved in a shooting.
53-year-old Terry Nero was shot through the kitchen window of his Twin Hickory home on March 11, 2010.
Authorities say that it was around 10:55 that night when officers were called to the scene of a shooting in the 4900 block of Park Meadows Lane. Arriving officers found Nero suffering from a gunshot wound to the face. Police say the shooting was done with a rifle.
Nero was transported to VCU Medical Center, where he was treated for his injuries and released.
Investigators told 8News that based on witness accounts and evidence, the shooter may have been hiding in the victim’s back yard prior to the shooting.
“After careful evaluation of the evidence and witness statements, the detectives believe the suspect or suspects were hiding in the victim’s back yard before the incident occurred,” officials said in a press release. “Seconds after the shot was fired, a witness observed the shadow of someone running from the scene.”
After the shooting, Henrico dive teams and police searched the Twin Hickory neighborhood in western Henrico County for evidence. At the time, authorities told 8News that the search was based on proximity to the scene of the shooting, not on a specific tip.
Police never said if Nero was specifically targeted or what the motive in the shooting was.
Anyone with information regarding this offense is asked to contact Henrico Police at (804) 501-5000 or Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000.
