March Madness Where You Live

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (WRIC) — The Atlantic 10 Tournament is underway in Brooklyn — and 8News is there!

8Sports Director Mitch Carr is reporting from the Barclays Center as long as the VCU Rams and the Richmond Spiders are still alive.

The VCU Rams flew to New York yesterday. Since the Rams’ plane had mechanical trouble, the team got in late. Still, that shouldn’t affect how they play later today against another set of Rams from Fordham.

The Fordham Rams beat George Mason 71-65 in the tournament’s first game last night. Those Rams may be based here in New York, but the Barclays Center always feels like home for VCU.

Older players on VCU’s team have played regular season games here as well as past tournaments. Even the freshmen on the team have played two games here earlier this season.

The Richmond Spiders get the winner of that game tomorrow at 2:30.  They’re en route to Brooklyn right now and will be in the stands to scout each team.

One more basketball note: down in Greensboro, the Virginia Cavaliers are tipping off their first game in the ACC tournament against Florida State. We’ll have more on both of these games later this evening on 8News.
