Actor Will Ferrell is honoring a former Major League baseball player and raising money for cancer charities by partaking in a marathon day of baseball today
Today Ferrell is participating in five baseball games, during which he will play for 10 different teams as part of an HBO special from his comedy website, Funny or Die, set to air later this year.
During those five games he will play all nine positions on the field in honor of former major leaguer Bert Campanies, who accomplished that same feat during a game in 1965.
Memorabilia from Ferrell’s day at the different ballparks will be auctioned on MLB.com, with proceeds going to Cancer for College and Stand Up to Cancer.
In a statement, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said, “Will is a big fan of our game, and many of us in baseball — among our clubs, players and our millions of fans — are big fans of his. Major League Baseball is happy to take part in what will surely be a fun and memorable day for a great cause.”
