RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Broken down bridges and crumbling highways. America’s infrastructure is aging, and the federal fund that helps with repairs and construction is running on fumes.
The clock is ticking for the federal highway trust fund, which could run out of money by the end of May. Virginia has been trying to plug the gap, but if the federal fund is not stabilized, construction projects here in the commonwealth could come to a grinding halt.
“Our roadways and our bridges are in the 40 and 50 year old range,” said Dan Rissmeyer with the American Society of Civil Engineers
Rissymeyer’s group recently issued a report card for Virginia’s infrastructure.
Our state’s roads received a ‘D.’
Overall, the Commonwealth’s infrastructure earned just a ‘C-.’
