Floria Doctor Atef Zakhary called it one of the most unique births he’s ever witnessed.
37-year-old Angela Patram and her older daughter, 20-year-old Teranisha Billups, both gave birth within minutes of each other on the same day at the same hospital.
“I’ve been in this field for 29 years…I’ve seen maybe 14,000 deliveries,” Zakhary said. “I’ve never seen a mom and daughter deliver on the same day. And this is as close as you could get.”
The aunt-nephew pair were almost born at the same time as Rayna Simone – Patram’s fifth child – beat her nephew Jerry Michaud Jr. – Billups’ first child – into the world by 34 minutes.
“They’re almost twins,” joked Patram, who works as a a surgical oncology nurse at Tampa General Hospital where both babies were born.
Billups said, “I guess we have special babies. We’ll be celebrating birthdays together for the rest of their lives. They’ll be very close.”
