RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Potholes are becoming a big problem after the weeks of cold weather and icy precipitation, creating a danger for drivers and their cars.
But good news- the money to fix your car may not have to come out of your own pocket.
It may be covered by VDOT or the Public Works Department responsible for maintaining that road where the damage happened.
VDOT and the Richmond Public Works Department says next week when temperatures warm up so that their asphalt mix will work, they plan to aggressively work on filling potholes.
When filing a claim with VDOT, the more information you have the better.
“The best thing for folks to do is to have as much information as possible. If you can give us the exact road, the day and time, the location, mile marker, land marks, etc. that is good information for us to have,” said Lindsey Legrand with VDOT.
If you know of a pothole that is particularly bad where you live, first report it to VDOT.
To file a claim with VDOT call 1-800-FOR-ROAD and to file a claim with Richmond Public Works contact the City Attorney’s Office.
