RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — As the weekend approaches, one of the big concerns about the freezing temperatures: Will Dominion Virginia Power be able to handle the demand for electricity?
Power demand skyrockets during frigid weather and over the next few days, Dominion could see record breaking numbers of people cranking up the heat.
So, the power company is asking folks to lower thermostats as low as they comfortably can to help reduce stress on power grids and save you money.
David Botkins, spokesman for Dominion, told 8News that they’re prepared for the spike.
“This sort of usage can put some stress on the grid system, but we have done lots of work to enhance and strengthen our grid system so we’re not anticipating any problems.”
