HENRICO, Va. (WRIC) — An off-duty Henrico police officer saved a man choking in a local restaurant Wednesday.
The Henrico Police Department said in a Facebook post that Officer M. Sheehan noticed a man starting to cough before realizing his breathing difficulties were quickly worsening.
When Officer Sheehan realized the man was choking, she calmly began the Heimlich maneuver. Eventually, the man coughed up the food stuck in his throat.
“She may humbly lessen the importance of her actions that night, but we feel she likely saved his life,” the post read. “Thank you, Ofc. Sheehan for your continued commitment to our citizens, on and off duty.”
The post also included an instructional video from the American Red Cross about how to identify choking and what to do. Click here to watch it.
