BB&T Apologizes After “Processing Error” Mixed Up Balances, Charged Overdraft Fees To Unsuspecting Customers

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — BB&T says it has fixed a processing issue that had several customer accounts showing incorrect balances, or even worse, no money at all.

BB&T made the announcement saying all of its customer balances should be accurate Wednesday.

The bank also acknowledged that the issue caused problems for many customers.

Some customers were hit with overdraft fees, a problem BB&T is calling a “processing issue.” The bank says that all of those fees have now been refunded.

If you use BB&T, what you see in your account right now should be correct, the bank says.

BB&T is also emphasizing that the issue had nothing to do with any sort of cyber security issues or hack.

In a Facebook post addressing the issue, BB&T said it “wholeheartedly apologizes” for the difficulties they caused.

The bank says they had their associates working through the night to get it all fixed.
