A horrific crime has left many in a Dinwiddie neighborhood stunned.
Sheriff Deputies say 63-year-old Nancy Sue Walton died after her husband, 61-year-old Joseph Walton, severely beat her.
Neighbors say the couple has lived in a quiet home on Satisfaction Lane for years.
They were friendly, but kept to themselves.
According to investigators, Joseph beat Nancy Sue in early January.
He was charged with aggravated malicious wounding and domestic assault and battery.
Nancy Sue was taken to VCU Medical Center on January 8 with life threatening injuries. Eleven days later, on January 19, she died.
Neighbors, who didn’t want to go on camera, tell us just months ago, the Walton’s garage burned to the ground.
It caused financial difficulties and one close friend says he believes it resulted in martial problems.
On Facebook, friends are reacting to stunning news that Nancy Sue has died.
One writes: “Sue was a wonderful person. This man has caused untold heartache for all who knew her. And especially her precious daughter. There is no punishment harsh enough for him.”
Another says: “Please pray for her only child. Pray for her grandchildren and extended family. Please, please God lay your healing hand on this family.”
Joseph Walton is now charged with first degree murder.
He remains in jail with no bond and is expected in court next week.
