RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — What a beautiful day yesterday! Doesn’t get much better than that for the middle part of January!
The good news here is that the above average temperatures will continue today as high pressure slides a little further east and weakens a tad bit. Expect morning clouds giving way to sunshine in the late morning hours along with temperatures in the mid to upper 50s.
A weak storm system will pass through the area during the day Wednesday bringing the risk for some light showers especially later in the afternoon.
We’ve been talking for nearly a week now of the potential of seeing a significant storm system impacting the region on Friday evening into the weekend. This morning the computer models have carried some consistency from yesterday afternoon showing the storm further north, BUT a lack of enough cold air may keep this system mainly liquid rather than frozen for much of the region. If this pans out to be the case we may be in for an absolute soaker late Friday into Saturday as the center of the system tracks over the Norfolk area. Other models keep the system slightly colder with the possibility of snow playing a role as well.
Still several days for things to change and a shift in the track will have huge implications here…
