One Killed, Two Firefighters Injured After Multiple Accidents Pile Up on I-295 South Monday

HENRICO, Va. (WRIC) — Virginia State Police are on the scene of a fatal accident on I-295 south Monday morning.

Two crashes just south of the 64 interchange closed all lanes on I-295 south.

The first crash was a single vehicle that ended up down an embankment.

As fire crews from Henrico worked the scene of that crash, a 2013 Honda Civic struck a fire engine at the scene of the first crash.

The driver of the Honda has been identified as 31-year-old Brad T. Cartwright of Fredericksburg, Virginia. Cartwright died at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt.

Two Henrico firefighters were in the firetruck when it was struck. They were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries and have since been released.
