RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Governor Terry McAuliffe has been released from the hospital.
While the governor was on vacation with family in Africa, he was thrown from a horse, which resulted in seven broken ribs.
Doctors drained a liter of blood and fluid from his chest cavity on Monday.
“While the injury did not impair his ability to do his job and his doctors expected the injury to heal on its own, [Monday] they identified increased fluid around his lungs that will require a procedure to remove,” Coy said.
Officials say that McAuliffe recovered well and even performed his duties from his hospital room.
During his stay, McAuliffe was visited by a therapy dog Wednesday in the hospital.
