PRINCE GEORGE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) – A man is dead after being shot by his girlfriend’s son in Prince George County Saturday afternoon.
According to police, officers were called to a home at the 15000 block of Clipperton Drive at roughly 1:00 p.m. in response to a shooting. When they arrived, they found 38-year-old Dustin Wilfong laying in the driveway suffering from an apparent gun shot wound. He was pronounced dead after being transferred to Southside Regional Medical Center.
Police say they learned that Wilfong was shot by his girlfriend’s 16-year-old son after an argument between Wilfong and his girlfriend turned physical.
“I’ve seen him working in the yard, trimming trees, putting up christmas decorations,” say Mary Lawrence, who lives next door. “I waved to him you know, and she seemed to be totally in love with him.”
The 16-year-old is being charged with first degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He is currently being held at Crater Juvenile Detention Center.
“I just hope they can get through it, they are going to need help to get through it, the son especially, he is going to totally regret,” says Lawrence.
8News spoke with a legal analyst who says there is a possibility the charge of first degree murder could be downgraded to a lesser charge.
More details about the teen’s court date could be released Tuesday.
