COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. (WRIC) — Residents call him the Jeff Davis Bandit, a robber hitting stores all up and down Jefferson Davis highway.
Domingo Garcia’s stepfather owns a quaint convenience store in Chester. Being a small business, their family relies on their customers to keep them open.
But just a few weeks ago when Garcia’s sister was working, an unwanted customer came in and things became violent.
“He pulls a plastic bag out and a knife and he tells her to put all the change and the money in there,” said Garcia.
An experience that’s devastated his sister.
“She couldn’t stop shaking for about a week,” said Garcia.
Little did the robber know, the whole time they were here they were on video surveillance. Store workers say in the end the robber got away with a couple hundred dollars in cash.
That crime on December 29, just two days earlier an Exxon in Colonial Heights at Jeff Davis and Norfolk Avenue was robbed. Security video shows the thief pulls a knife, empties the cash drawer, then rushes out.
“Once he leaves the business he then flees, we believe on foot, he has been seen running behind the buildings,” Sgt. Rob Ruxer with the Colonial Heights Police Department said.
Three days later he’s at it again at the same Exxon. He is still armed with a knife this time he gets away empty handed. 48 hours later on New Years day the bandit strikes again, hitting Papa Johns in Colonial Heights.
Four times now, always armed with a knife, always with his face covered.
That same Exxon was robbed again January 11, police say that crime was unrelated, and have arrested 2 juveniles.
