BUCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Students at Buckingham County High School reached out to 8News today after being in lockdown for most of the school day.
Concerned parents called our newsroom after hearing rumors about two gunmen on campus.
School officials say that on Friday morning, the administration was notified that a weapon was in school. An investigation ensued immediately among school administration and law enforcement, School Superintendent Cecil Snead told 8News.
The school released a statement about the incident.
“The school was placed on lockdown following all procedures and protocol being cooperatively enforced between law enforcement and administration. No one has been hurt or placed in harm’s way. We will dismiss school at regular time,” the statement read.
School is dismissing on time.
Officials tell us that the students have been in lockdown since 9:20 a.m.
“Kids have been handling the situation great and they are ending the day on a good note,” a school official said.
