RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The Richmond Police officer who was shot in the line of duty was released from VCU Medical Center today.
A police official tells 8News that Turner is spending the rest of his time recuperating at a different facility.
Officer William Turner was shot on January 2 while responding to a call for a mental health check at a Richmond home.
This Sunday, Home Team Grill is hosting a fundraiser for officer turner at their location on West Main Street in the fan. A percentage of revenue for that day will go to his medical care expenses.
“We have a go blue fundraising event for Officer Turner who was injured in the line of duty. We are trying to support his family, his cause and help him do better,” says Chris Cox with Home Team Grill.
Home Team Grill has also partnered with other restaurants and businesses to provide raffle items and money for the cause. If more people attend the fundraiser through out the day on Sunday, more money will be raised for the officer and his family.
“This is a police officer, this is a part of Richmond, this is the Richmond Police Department, it’s a part of our community, and of course you should help support,” says Cox.
If you are unable to make it to the event on Sunday, you can send donations for Officer Turner to the Richmond Virginia Fire Police Credit Union Line of Duty Support Fund at 200 West Grace Street. make sure Officer William Turner’s name is referenced with the donation.
