HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Folks in Henrico are one step closer to having a new place to shop.
County officials and developers broke ground on the new West Broad Marketplace on Wednesday.
The 440,000 square foot shopping center will eventually house Wegman’s, the highly anticipated grocery store, Cabela’s as well as several other retailers.
Construction will take place for the rest of the year. When the project is complete it’s expected to have a big economic impact on the county.
“Right now this is agricultural land. And once we have almost a half million square feet of retail on it, the county will benefit from a vast increase in property taxes, as well as a significant amount of sales tax that comes back to the county from the sales in the stores.
Cabela’s is set to open in April 2016 closely followed by Wegman’s.
