Winter Weather Causes Multiple Crashes On Central Virginia Roadways

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Police have been working numerous crashes (85 as of 8:00 a.m.) on Interstates 64, 95,  288, 295 and 85 due to icy road conditions.

Chesterfield Police said that they have responded to 56 crashes since 3:00 a.m.

Police were on scene of a fatal crash on I-95 southbound near I-295 at mile marker 84. Authorities say that it appears to be a single-vehicle crash.

There was another fatal crash on I-85 southbound at mile marker 55 in Dinwiddie County, at 2:10 a.m. involving a single-vehicle.

Two accidents closed I-95 South in Hanover and Ashland Wednesday morning. One of those accidents involved several tractor trailers.

The highway has since been reopened.

Police are advising drivers to SLOW DOWN, take your time and beware that bridges and overpasses may be icy. Leave plenty of distance between vehicles and be patient — it WILL take longer than usual to commute this morning.
