Two Killed In Separate Crashes Wednesday Morning

Virginia State Police worked two accidents this morning, both occurring in the early morning hours.

The first happened in Dinwiddie County around 2 AM Wednesday morning. Trooper H.L. Jimenez, who investigated the crash, says that Bartholomew D. Toe Sr, 52 years old, from Highpoint, NC, was driving his ’99 Jeep Cherokee south on Interstate 85, when it ran off the road hitting several trees and overturning.

Toe, who was wearing his seat belt, died at the scene. The crash is still under investigation.

The second happened around 5:30 AM Wednesday morning, but because the vehicle was obscured in the trees, it was not noticed until after 10 AM when a motorist spotted the vehicle in the woods off the right side of the interstate and called State Police.

Trooper R.T. Woodhouse immediately responded to the crash site along Interstate 295 approximately a half mile south of the Interstate 95 interchange in Henrico County.

A 2004 Ford Ranger had been traveling south on I-295 when it ran off the road to the right, overturned on the driver’s side and struck a tree.

The driver of the Ford, Charles T. Vangoor, Jr., 68, of Ashland, Va., died at the scene. He had been wearing a seat belt.

The crash remains under investigation. Weather is believed to have been a factor in the crash.
